Ghyll House, Ormside, Cumbria

Instruction occurs predominantly in our studio / gallery. The day always begins there. Depending on the weather and goals set, painting will either be inside the studio, in the garden, or in the surrounding area. Lunch is provided in our home in the barn addition.

For those who are opting to stay overnight, the original cottage is available. It was built in 1795 by the Earl of Thannet to service the local lime kiln. It includes a lounge with a food burning stove, a kitchen with an oil-fuelled rayburn and electric hob, an upstairs bathroom, and two guest rooms. There are also tables and chairs in the garden for your use.

The Village of Ormside is ½ a mile down the road. It’s a nice walk to St James Church that is open and has Sunday services. The only other public establishment is the Village Hall, which offers coffee mornings, craft, and quiz nights. Appleby is 3 ½ miles away. It has shops, cafes and a castle!
